The clock seems to have mastered us. We define our lives by the clock. I must get married by this time. I must have children by that time. We have a list of things that we often put time restraints on. When we fail to meet those time restraints, we tend to have this feeling that we have missed the mark or that we are just too late. I too had this map or schedule of events that had a time-stamp. I often would find myself saying “I’m not getting any younger.” A statement that signified that I was running out of time. Perhaps even you have said that same thing. I’m sure you would be glad to know that God does not operate on our clocks. Whew!!! I can safely wipe the sweat dripping down my face and breathe easy. Did you know that there is a Kairos and Chronos time? Chronos refers to a chronological or sequential time, and Kairos refers to a proper or opportune time. God works on his timing, not ours. He is the one who created us, and he knows what is best and right for us. As long as we are walking in his will, we will arrive at our destinies at our predestined time.
I now realize that the things I can handle at 43 I could not and would not have been able to handle at 20. Sometimes we assume that we know best because we have lived with ourselves all our lives. But God who knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5) already had a plan for your life. He knew your destiny even before you uttered your dream. He knows you better than you know you. How can the created know themselves better than the creator? It’s not possible. A piece of pottery doesn’t know the number of spins it took on the wheel to become a cup or a vase. It doesn’t know the amount of pressure that was necessary to take its intended shape. My point is God knew and implemented the right touch, the right pressure and the number of spins it would take to reveal you to you. God doesn’t need to reveal to himself (creator), but he needs you to see what he created in you for His purpose (light-bulb moment).
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and future. Jeremiah 29:11
Relax!! You are on board to arrive. You will get there, and it will be in God’s time. He is never too late and never too early. He is always on time. PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT!!! I’m not telling you not to be diligent and do what God is telling you to do. I’m saying you do the work, stay challenged, stay hungry, stay focused but don’t restrict the moments of fruition by limiting God, because he does not measure up to your time-stamps.
God, you have set me upon this journey,
I’ll gladly go where you send me.
Give me a heart that is patient,
And a drive that earnest.
Lift my wings that I may soar,
Prepare me Lord, for that open door.
Mold and make me, press and shape me,
Your plan for me will come to be.
At just the right time and not a minute to late,
My destiny I’ll land at your predestined date.
